Perry Saturn (with Moppy) against Chavo Guerrero Jr. kicked off Sunday Night HEAT, which would also feature the first-ever WORM race and a magnificent Hardcore Championship match!Saturn looked aggressive and focused in the match, despite the well publicized numerous blows to the head. When Chavo went for a flying dropkick, Saturn caught him and slingshot Chavo to the ring post, where Chavo's head met Moppy's! Three seconds later, Saturn picked up the win!
HEAT then aired footage of guest host Scotty 2 Hotty's arrival to WWF New York, when he greeted fans and signed autographs!
Up next, Hardcore Holly took on Shawn Stasiak of the Alliance. Holly kept the Federation's momentum going with an impressive win over Stasiak.
Backstage at WWF New York, a waitress asked Scotty 2 Hotty what he thought about The Rock coming back to the World Wrestling Federation. Scotty accurately described The Rock, said he thought it was great and guaranteed a Rock win over Shane McMahon in his Street Fight on RAW IS WAR!
The One Billy Gunn and the Big Show looked to extend the Federation's winning streak over the Alliance - and continue to shed their underachiever label - in a match against Raven and Justin Credible. Before the match, Al Snow came up with a name for the team - Giant Ass! The budding tag team looked impressive, and Show finished off Credible for the win!
In the back, Scotty 2 Hotty prepared two men and a woman by saying, "May the best worm win!
Scotty 2 Hotty addressed his fans the only way he knew how - with the WORM -- as HEAT prepared for its first-ever WORM race. First, Scotty said it was good to be back in the Federation, and he was 100 percent!
Scotty then addressed his three contestants, and with a winning time of 12 seconds, Sara, a beautiful young woman, won four tickets to Saturday's event at Long Island's Nassau Coliseum! The second place winner received a complementary dinner to WWF New York!
HEAT's feature match was between two old ECW rivals, as Hardcore Champion Rob Van Dam defended against Jerry Lynn. If you blinked, you missed one in a series of sensational moves from both men who know each other very well. Lynn took the fight to the outside in an attempt to unseat the champion, but Van Dam gained control with a knee to Lynn's head and a bodyslam on a steel chair. Yet, Lynn moved away from an attempted Van Dam splash and rolled up RVD for a near pin - followed by several pinning attempts from both men. Soon, Van Dam went for a split-legged moonsault, but instead hit a chair and barely escaped another pin.
For the majority of the match, whatever Van Dam tried to do, Lynn neutralized - except for a superplex, which turned the course of the match. Van Dam nailed his Five Star Frog Splash on top of a prone Lynn and a chair to win the match and retain the Hardcore Championship!
Following the exciting Hardcore encounter, HEAT aired a video tribute to The Rock, part of which showed Shane McMahon's challenge to the Great One to a Street Fight on RAW IS WAR! Michael Cole and Al Snow could only speculate if The Rock would be a part of SummerSlam, but like the package proved, Rock refused the Alliance's offer and returned to the Federation!
